Karnataka Class 4 and 5 all Subjects 5E’S Lesson Plans released

In a transformative move to elevate classroom teaching and learning outcomes at the primary level, the Karnataka Education Department has officially released 5E’s Lesson Plans for Class 4 and Class 5 across all subjects. These structured lesson plans, based on the 5E instructional model—Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate, are designed to promote activity-based and student-centered learning in primary schools.

The initiative is part of the state’s continued efforts to implement experiential learning methodologies in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The 5E lesson plans aim to make classrooms more interactive, where students actively participate, ask questions, and build their understanding through exploration and reflection.

Prepared by a team of subject experts, experienced teachers, and Resource Persons from DIET and DSERT, the plans cover all key subjects—Kannada, English, Mathematics, Environmental Studies (EVS) and other language subjects, where applicable. These lesson plans are available in both Kannada and English medium, ensuring accessibility for all types of schools across the state.

Each lesson plan follows a progressive structure:

• Engage: Captures students’ interest and connects prior knowledge.
• Explore: Encourages hands-on learning through activities or observations.
• Explain: Facilitates concept clarification with examples and teacher input.
• Elaborate: Deepens understanding through application and discussion.
• Evaluate: Assesses student learning using both formal and informal methods.

These lesson plans empower teachers with clear teaching strategies, suggested materials, interactive questions, and assessment tools for each concept. They also emphasize inclusive education practices, allowing adaptation for students with different learning needs.

By adopting the 5E model at the primary school level, Karnataka is setting a strong foundation for conceptual learning, creativity, and critical thinking, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning and academic success among young learners.
