In a major update, the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has revised the exam pattern and marking scheme for the upcoming VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) 2026. As per the latest announcement, the VITEEE 2026 question paper will now carry a total of 500 marks, a significant change from the previous year’s 125 marks structure.
The registration for VITEEE 2026 has already commenced on the official website Eligible candidates can submit their applications till March 31, 2026. The VITEEE 2026 exam is scheduled to be conducted from April 28 to May 3, 2026.
VITEEE 2026 Marking Scheme Revised
Earlier, each question in the VITEEE exam carried one mark, with no negative marking for incorrect answers. However, from VITEEE 2026 onwards, the marking scheme has been completely revamped. Now, each correct answer will fetch four marks, while one mark will be deducted for every incorrect response. Questions left unanswered or marked for review will carry zero marks.
With this new pattern, the total marks of the VITEEE 2026 paper stand at 500 marks (125 questions × 4 marks each). The exam format remains the same — Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four options per question.
VITEEE 2026 Exam Duration and Structure
The duration of the VITEEE 2026 exam will continue to be 2 hours and 30 minutes. Candidates will be required to attempt 125 questions, distributed across five subjects — Mathematics/Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Aptitude.
The exam will be conducted in two streams based on the candidate’s subject preference:
- MPCEA – for students who have studied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Aptitude (eligible for all BTech programmes)
- BPCEA – for students who have studied Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Aptitude (eligible for bio-stream BTech programmes)

VITEEE 2026 Admission Process
The VITEEE 2026 scores will be considered for admission to BTech courses across the four campuses of VIT — VIT Vellore, VIT Chennai, VIT Andhra Pradesh (Amaravati), and VIT Bhopal.
Candidates will be shortlisted based on their VITEEE rank and performance in the entrance test. The result of VITEEE 2026 is expected to be declared in the second week of May 2026, followed by online counselling and seat allotment.
