NEET UG 2026 Notification Expected by January: Exam Dates, Registration Details, and Key Guidelines

With the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) releasing the Class 12 board exam schedule and the National Testing Agency (NTA) announcing the JEE Main 2026 dates, the spotlight now shifts to another major national-level exam — the NEET UG 2026, the gateway to undergraduate medical education in India.

Expected NEET UG 2026 Notification and Registration Timeline

Analysing trends from the past three years, NEET UG notifications are typically released between February and March. In 2023, the notification was issued on March 6, and the registration window remained open until April 6, later reopening briefly from April 11 to 13. In 2024, NTA advanced the process, releasing the notification on February 9 and extending the registration period until March 16. Similarly, the NEET UG 2025 notification came out on February 7, with registration open until March 7.

Based on these patterns, experts predict that the NEET UG 2026 notification will be released by the end of January 2026, with registrations likely open from the first week of February to the first week of March. This early announcement would allow students sufficient time to complete their applications, verify details, and focus on preparation for one of the most competitive entrance examinations in India.

About NEET UG 2026

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET UG, is conducted annually by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical courses across India. It is India’s largest entrance examination, witnessing over 22 lakh applicants in 2025.

The NEET UG 2026 exam will be conducted in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, ensuring inclusivity for candidates from different regions.

NEET UG 2026: Possible Computer-Based Test Transition

The Ministry of Education is currently exploring the possibility of shifting NEET UG to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode to enhance exam security and reduce logistical challenges. Discussions are ongoing with the Ministry of Health, although the transition has not yet been implemented. If approved, the 2026 edition could mark a significant shift in the exam format.

Important Application Guidelines for NEET UG 2026 Candidates

NTA has laid down several important guidelines for candidates to ensure a smooth registration process:

  • Candidates must provide a valid email ID and mobile number, either their own or that of a parent/guardian, for all official communication.
  • OTP verification is mandatory during both registration and fee payment. Confirmation messages will be sent to registered email addresses and mobile numbers.
  • Details such as name, date of birth, contact information, address, category, PwBD status, educational qualifications, exam city, and gender must be entered carefully. Once the confirmation page is generated, no corrections will be permitted.
  • Candidates will receive their confirmation page, scanned OMR sheet, and scorecard via email after submission.

The NEET UG 2026 will serve as a defining milestone for Class 12 students aspiring to pursue careers in medicine. With over 22 lakh candidates expected to apply, early preparation and attention to NTA updates will be critical. Students are advised to regularly check the official NEET website (neet.nta.nic.in) for updates on notification release, registration dates, and exam guidelines.
