The Tamil Nadu government has officially opened applications for the 2025 Tamil Nadu State Awards, aimed at recognizing individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to the promotion of Tamil language and culture. Interested candidates can apply online via the official portal. The last date to submit applications is August 22, 2025, by 5 PM.
Among the prestigious accolades being awarded is the Devaneya Pavanar Award, which honors Tamil scholars who have made outstanding contributions to Tamil lexicography, etymology, and dictionary compilation. Recipients of this award will receive a cash prize of ₹2 lakh along with a gold medal, signifying their scholarly achievements and dedication to preserving Tamil linguistic heritage.
Another notable award category is the Pure Tamil Media Award, also referred to as the Thuyat Tamil Oodaga Virudhu. This award will be presented to print and visual media organizations that maintain a purely Tamil vocabulary in their publications and broadcasts. Media houses that make exemplary contributions to Tamil journalism will be eligible for this prestigious honor.
In an inclusive gesture, the Tamil Nadu government has stated that applicants need not be residents of the state. Tamil scholars and media organizations from across India are eligible to apply, promoting a broader participation of Tamil language advocates and practitioners.
