Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS): Eligibility, Benefits & Application Process

The Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) is a vital social security initiative implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. Aimed at supporting vulnerable widows from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households, the scheme provides financial assistance to help them lead a dignified life. As a non-contributory pension scheme, it extends support without requiring any financial input from the beneficiary.

BENEFITS

Under IGNWPS, eligible widows aged between 40 and 79 years receive a monthly pension of ₹300. For beneficiaries aged 80 years and above, the pension increases to ₹500 per month. This amount is transferred directly into the beneficiary’s bank or post office account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and timely disbursement.
