Admission Process and Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission, candidates must have secured a minimum of 55% marks or a 5.5 CPI in their qualifying degree.

Candidates can apply using valid national-level test scores such as:

Alternatively, IIT Kanpur will conduct its own online entrance examination for those without a valid national-level test score.

Departments may also specify additional criteria, such as prior academic background, work experience, or interviews. Professionals with over five years of relevant industry experience, or sponsored candidates from government or defence organisations, may be exempted from the entrance test, as per the official release.

Focus on Flexibility and Industry Relevance

IIT Kanpur emphasized that the online format is designed to balance academic depth with industry-oriented learning. Each course will include real-world projects, case studies, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

The curriculum is built to prepare learners for specialized roles in technology, economics, data science, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and other emerging domains that demand strong analytical, technical, and leadership skills.

Academic Vision and National Goals

According to the Office of Outreach Activities, this digital expansion reflects IIT Kanpur’s mission to democratize access to quality higher education while maintaining the same academic standards as its on-campus programmes.

The initiative aligns with India’s national vision of building a highly skilled and technologically empowered workforce to drive innovation and economic growth.

The launch of these online postgraduate programmes also reinforces the global trend of digitally integrated education and flexible learning pathways, supporting the growing demand for upskilling and re-skilling among professionals.
