The Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT), Karnataka, has officially announced the implementation of the Bridge Course (Sethubanda) for students of Classes 1 to 10 starting in June 2025. This initiative is aimed at bridging the learning gaps among students as they transition into a new academic year. The course will be conducted using the updated DSERT-developed literature, specially designed to support foundational and grade-level learning recovery.
As per the official notification, students of Class 1 will undergo a structured ‘Vidyapravesh’ program for 40 days, spread across June and July 2025. This program is tailored to help first-time school-goers become familiar with school routines, classroom interaction, and basic literacy and numeracy. For students of Classes 2 to 10, the Bridge Course (Sethubanda) will be conducted over a span of 15 days in June 2025.
The latest version of the Sethubanda material, released by DSERT, includes carefully curated activities, worksheets, and tasks designed to help teachers identify and address individual learning gaps. These resources are aligned with specific learning outcomes and aim to promote competency-based learning in a child-friendly and engaging manner.
Teachers and facilitators are instructed to prepare thoroughly before the sessions, ensuring that all required Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) and instructional aids are in place. A crucial component of the Bridge Course is the implementation of pre-tests and post-tests to assess student progress. Facilitators are expected to design their own assessment tools based on the specific needs and context of their classroom.
Sample questions are provided at the end of the Sethubanda material to serve as references, but teachers are encouraged to develop context-specific questions that align with the competencies being assessed. The pre-test will help identify existing learning gaps, while the post-test will measure the progress achieved during the course.
This Bridge Course reflects DSERT’s commitment to ensuring equitable learning opportunities for all students across Karnataka. It empowers teachers with the tools and flexibility to tailor interventions, ensuring that no child is left behind as the new academic year begins. Schools are encouraged to approach this initiative with seriousness and innovation to lay a strong foundation for effective learning in 2025–26, for more details CLICK HERE
