The Andhra Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has announced a landmark welfare initiative for municipal workers, offering one of the most comprehensive social security measures in the state’s history. The announcement was made during the SwarnAndhra–SwachhAndhra campaign rally at Peddapuram in Kakinada district, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and strengthening the cleanliness drive across Andhra Pradesh.
Life Insurance Cover for Municipal Workers
Under the new scheme, regular municipal workers will be provided with a ₹1 crore life insurance cover, ensuring financial protection for their families in the unfortunate event of death. Outsourced municipal workers will also receive significant support with a ₹20 lakh life insurance cover.
Importantly, the scheme extends to cases of permanent disability, where the same amounts will be assured to workers, providing them with a strong safety net and ensuring that their livelihoods and families remain protected despite unforeseen adversities.
Educational Support for Workers’ Children
In addition to life insurance, the Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a special educational assistance scheme. Children of municipal workers will be eligible for education support up to ₹8 lakh, enabling them to pursue higher education and professional courses without financial burdens. This measure is expected to uplift families and create long-term opportunities for the next generation of municipal workers’ families.
Focus on Workers’ Welfare and Cleanliness
Speaking at the rally, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu emphasized that municipal workers are the backbone of the state’s cleanliness and sanitation system. He acknowledged their tireless service, often in challenging conditions, and highlighted the government’s resolve to provide them with dignity, respect, and financial security.
The SwarnAndhra–SwachhAndhra campaign, under which the announcement was made, is part of the state’s larger vision to promote sustainable urban development, enhance sanitation infrastructure, and instill a culture of cleanliness among citizens. By combining welfare with civic responsibility, the initiative seeks to create a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous Andhra Pradesh.
Strategic Importance of the Initiative
This welfare package is expected to bring significant relief to thousands of municipal workers across the state. By offering both financial protection through insurance and educational empowerment for children, the government has set a benchmark in worker-centric governance.
The scheme also aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s broader goal of promoting inclusive growth, reducing inequalities, and ensuring that frontline workers—who play a critical role in maintaining public health and urban hygiene—receive due recognition and support.
The ₹1 crore life insurance cover for regular municipal workers, ₹20 lakh cover for outsourced workers, and ₹8 lakh educational support for their children underscore the Andhra Pradesh government’s unwavering commitment to social security and education. With this initiative, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has sent a strong message of solidarity with municipal workers while reinforcing the objectives of the SwarnAndhra–SwachhAndhra campaign.
