The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026, scheduled for February 2026. The official website for GATE 2026 has already been launched, ushering in the new phase of preparations for aspiring engineers, technologists, and researchers across the country.

Key Dates and Registration Timeline

The registration process for GATE 2026 will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, and interested candidates can apply online without a late fee until Thursday, September 25, 2025. An extended registration window with a late fee will be open until Monday, October 6, 2025.

The examination is set to take place across two weekends—February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026—and the results will be declared on March 19, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

GATE 2026 is open to a wide range of candidates. Those currently in the third year or higher of any undergraduate program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities or those who have already completed such a degree from a recognized institution are eligible.

Moreover, candidates possessing qualifications certified as equivalent to BE/BTech/BArch/BPlanning by regulatory bodies such as the Ministry of Education (MoE), AICTE, UGC, or UPSC are also eligible. Additionally, foreign nationals who are either pursuing or have completed equivalent degree programs are welcome to apply.

Application Fee Structure

For Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates, the application fee during the regular registration period is ₹1,000 per test paper. During the extended registration period, the fee rises to ₹1,500.

For all other candidates, the application fee is ₹2,000 per paper during regular registration and ₹2,500 during the extended period.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a prestigious, national-level entrance exam that evaluates a candidate’s grasp of various undergraduate-level subjects in engineering, technology, architecture, and science.
