The Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has opened applications for the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE)-Societal Challenges with Opportunities (SCOPE) Fellowship 2025. This impactful initiative is designed to empower women scientists and technologists holding a doctoral degree, providing an opportunity to channel their science and technology (S&T) expertise towards real-world challenges that affect communities at the grassroots level.
TRANSFORMATIVE S&T INTERVENTIONS FOR SOCIETAL IMPACT
The WISE-SCOPE Fellowship program is tailored for projects that deliver tangible solutions through S&T interventions. Applicants are encouraged to frame proposals addressing pressing social and environmental challenges in India. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, livelihood generation, reducing drudgery, health and nutrition improvement, efficient natural resource management, sustainable agriculture, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and disaster management. The goal is to foster innovation that bridges science and societal welfare, leveraging expert knowledge for grassroots transformation.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Aspiring fellows must fulfill the following criteria:
Employment Status: Only candidates not in regular employment are eligible; the fellowship targets women scientists who are currently unaffiliated to any regular job.
Age Limit: Applicants should be at least 27 years old and not above 60 years as on the date of application submission.
Educational Qualification: Women scientists must have completed a Ph.D. in basic or applied sciences, or possess an equivalent degree such as MD, MS, or MDS.
APPLICATION DEADLINE AND PROCESS
The last date to submit applications for the WISE-SCOPE Fellowship is Sunday, August 31, 2025. Interested and eligible candidates should prepare a detailed project proposal that clearly articulates their proposed S&T solution and its societal relevance. Proposals must be scientifically sound, community-focused, and demonstrate the potential for on-ground impact.
