IGNOU Begins Ph.D Admission Registration for July 2025 Session

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has officially announced the start of the registration process for PhD admissions for the July 2025 session. Aspiring researchers and academicians across the country can now apply online through the dedicated portal at ignou-phd.samarth.edu.in. The application window will remain open for 21 days from the official announcement date, giving candidates a limited period to submit their online forms.

APPLICATION PROCESS AND FEE

Eligible candidates must complete the registration process exclusively online. A non-refundable application fee of ₹1,000 is required from all applicants. Admission will be conducted under two distinct categories, each with specific eligibility and selection criteria.

CATEGORIES OF ADMISSION

Category A

This group includes candidates who have successfully qualified the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) with a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Candidates falling under this category will bypass the entrance examination and proceed directly to the interview phase, which will have a 100% weightage in the final selection process.

Category B

Candidates in this category are those who have cleared UGC NET, but without earning a fellowship. Their selection will involve both their performance in UGC NET and the interview round.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must have secured at least 55% marks in their postgraduate degree. A relaxation of 5% is granted to candidates from reserved categories, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC–non-creamy layer), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), as per UGC regulations. Individuals holding a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree with the same minimum marks are also eligible to apply.

The final merit list will be compiled by giving a 70% weightage to the UGC NET score and 30% to the performance in the interview. All interviews will be conducted physically at IGNOU’s Maidan Garhi campus in New Delhi. The selection panels will evaluate candidates on research methodology, subject knowledge, and communication skills.

Candidates currently employed and seeking part-time admission must submit a no-objection certificate (NOC) from their employer, formatted as prescribed in the official brochure.

RESULTS AND FURTHER INFORMATION

After the selection process concludes, IGNOU will publish the list of selected candidates on its official website. Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the official notification and checklist before submission to ensure compliance with all eligibility and documentation requirements.
