Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a prestigious international scholarship scheme for students from the state, aimed at promoting higher education abroad. The state cabinet has approved the programme under which five students will be selected annually to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom.

The announcement was made during a tribute meeting in Lucknow, held to mark the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The scholarship has been named in Vajpayee’s honour, recognising his long-standing contributions to Indian politics, governance, and society. This initiative combines the UP government’s commitment to global educational opportunities with a tribute to one of India’s most respected leaders.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath explained the financial structure of the programme, stating, “Recently, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet decided to select five students each year for higher education scholarships to Britain. The British government will cover half of the costs, while the UP government will cover the other half.” This partnership ensures that talented students can access world-class education without the burden of financial constraints.

The Chief Minister highlighted the prestige associated with the scholarship, noting that it is highly regarded in the United Kingdom. “This scholarship, named in honour of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is considered prestigious in Britain. The state government is dedicated to preserving the memory of Atal Ji through this initiative,” he added. The programme not only encourages academic excellence but also strengthens cultural and educational ties between India and the UK.

The scholarship is expected to focus on high-performing students from Uttar Pradesh, providing them with an opportunity to study at leading UK universities. By facilitating international exposure, the initiative aims to broaden students’ academic perspectives, enhance their professional skills, and create a network of globally competent professionals representing Uttar Pradesh on international platforms.

By combining educational development with recognition of national icons, the programme serves a dual purpose of academic empowerment and cultural remembrance.

Education experts have praised the Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Scholarship, highlighting that it offers a unique opportunity for students to pursue higher education in a global environment. It is also expected to inspire more students to excel academically, knowing that high achievers will be rewarded with international exposure and recognition.

With this initiative, the Uttar Pradesh government is taking a significant step toward fostering global educational opportunities for its youth while preserving the memory of revered leaders. The programme reinforces the state’s focus on academic excellence, international collaboration, and honouring India’s illustrious personalities.
