The Ministry of Women and Child Development has extended the ongoing special registration drive for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) till 15 August 2025. This extension aims to ensure comprehensive outreach to all eligible pregnant and lactating women (PW&LM) across the country. The awareness-cum-enrolment campaign, being carried out door-to-door by Anganwadi and ASHA workers, focuses on timely registration and access to benefits under the scheme.
PMMVY is a centrally sponsored scheme under Mission Shakti’s sub-scheme ‘Samarthya’, offering cash incentives to support maternal health and promote positive attitudes toward the girl child. It provides ₹5,000 in two installments for the first child and ₹6,000 in a single installment for the second girl child, as per the latest Mission Shakti guidelines.
The scheme is designed to offer partial compensation for wage loss during pregnancy, enabling women to rest before and after childbirth. It also promotes nutritious diets, healthcare-seeking behaviour, and better maternal and child health outcomes. Since its inception, and up to 31st July 2025, over 4.05 crore beneficiaries have received at least one installment under the scheme,
with a total disbursement of ₹19,028 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to Aadhaar-linked bank or post office accounts.
To enhance transparency and efficiency, the implementation of PMMVY has been digitized through the PMMVYSoft portal, launched in March 2023. This software integrates Aadhaar authentication via UIDAI, and NPCI verification to ensure secure and direct transfers of benefits. Several reforms have been introduced to improve the scheme’s delivery, including:
- Integrated Grievance Module
- Multilingual & Toll-free PMMVY Helpline (14408)
- Facial Recognition System (FRS) for biometric authentication
- Due-list generation for identifying potential beneficiaries
The extension of the registration drive is a crucial step in achieving wider coverage and ensuring that no eligible mother is left behind. The ministry urges all eligible women to enroll within the extended deadline and avail the financial and nutritional support aimed at improving maternal and child welfare across the nation.
