PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates ₹11,000 Crore Highway Projects in Delhi to Boost Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated two major highway infrastructure projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore in Delhi, marking a significant step toward easing traffic congestion and boosting connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR). The projects include a 10.1-km section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Both projects are expected to reduce travel time, enhance logistics efficiency, and strengthen economic growth in the capital.

Dwarka Expressway Section Inaugurated

The first project inaugurated by PM Modi was the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, developed at a cost of ₹5,360 crore. This 10.1-km elevated road is strategically designed to improve urban mobility and regional connectivity.

The expressway will seamlessly connect Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, Metro’s Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot. Additionally, it will directly link with Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), creating a smooth transit corridor for both daily commuters and long-distance travelers.

By easing congestion on existing arterial roads, the Dwarka Expressway is expected to provide a world-class infrastructure boost to West and South-West Delhi, while also benefiting commuters heading towards Gurugram and other NCR hubs.

UER-II: A Game-Changer for Delhi’s Traffic

The second project, the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II, was inaugurated at a cost of ₹5,580 crore. This highway segment, including spurs to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, will serve as a critical bypass to reduce heavy traffic on Delhi’s Inner Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

UER-II is particularly significant for addressing bottlenecks at Mukarba Chowk and Dhaula Kuan, two of Delhi’s most congested intersections. Once operational, it will offer an alternative route for interstate traffic and freight movement, reducing pressure on city roads and improving overall road safety.

Benefits of the Projects

According to officials, the two highway projects combined will:

  • Decongest Delhi’s arterial roads by diverting interstate and heavy vehicles.
  • Reduce travel time for commuters within Delhi and between NCR cities.
  • Boost economic activity by facilitating smoother logistics and supply chain operations.
  • Strengthen NCR connectivity by linking major transport hubs, including metro stations, railway stations, and bus depots.
  • Improve air quality by cutting down on traffic congestion and vehicular emissions.

Speaking at the inauguration in Rohini, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that these projects reflect the government’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure for India’s growing urban centers. He noted that the highways will not only ease commuting woes but also generate new opportunities for trade, business, and tourism in the capital region.

The inauguration of the Dwarka Expressway Delhi section and the UER-II Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch marks a transformative moment in Delhi’s urban planning and infrastructure development. With an investment of nearly ₹11,000 crore, these projects are set to reshape travel across the NCR, reduce congestion at critical choke points, and pave the way for sustainable urban mobility in the years ahead.
