The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has announced a major digital initiative allowing repeaters and private candidates appearing for the SSLC and II PUC examinations to register and pay their exam fees online via the Board’s official website. The move, implemented under the direction of the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL), marks a significant step towards modernization and convenience in Karnataka’s education system.
Online Registration Introduced for the First Time
Confirming the development, Gopalakrishna H.N., Director of KSEAB, said,
“For the convenience of repeaters and private candidates, we have implemented a system of online registration for SSLC and II PUC examinations for the first time. Separate guidelines will be issued in a couple of days in this regard.”
Previously, fresh candidates (regular school students) could already register online for board examinations, but repeaters and private students had to follow manual registration procedures. Every year, over 90,000 repeaters and private candidates apply for these examinations across Karnataka, making this change both impactful and time-saving.
Challenges with the Previous System
Until now, private candidates who met the prescribed age limit had to visit their nearest government high school or PU college to register for the exams and pay their fees. Similarly, repeaters were required to go back to the institutions where they had studied earlier to complete their registration and payment.
The exam fee collected from candidates was then deposited by headmasters or principals into the KSEAB account. However, this manual process often led to several challenges and complaints:
- Absence of school authorities during registration hours caused delays.
- Unnecessary harassment and high fees were reportedly demanded from some candidates.
- Late deposits of exam fees sometimes resulted in students not receiving their admit cards on time.
These recurring issues prompted the KSEAB to develop a more transparent and efficient online registration and payment system to ensure fairness, accessibility, and accountability.
Benefits of Online Registration for Candidates
The newly introduced online system allows candidates to complete the entire registration and fee payment process digitally, from any location. This not only saves time and travel costs but also ensures that the fee payment is securely transferred to the board without intermediaries.
Suresh. R, a private II PUC candidate, welcomed the change, saying:
“I had to go to the college three or four times to register as a private candidate for the II PUC exam last year. I have backlogs in two subjects, so I am registering again this year. It’s very convenient that the exam registration and payment can be done online. This will save a lot of time.”
A Step Toward Digital Governance in Education
The KSEAB online registration system is expected to enhance efficiency, minimize human intervention, and make the examination process more student-centric. Candidates can now register for SSLC and II PUC 2026 examinations directly through the official website and complete their exam fee payment online using debit/credit cards or net banking.
This move not only reflects the digital transformation of Karnataka’s education sector but also strengthens transparency and reliability in the examination process. With this reform, KSEAB aims to provide a smoother, faster, and corruption-free experience for repeaters and private candidates, empowering thousands of students across the state, for more details CLICK HERE
