The Karnataka government has announced the expansion of the Marusinchana scheme to 27 educational districts, a significant step toward enhancing learning outcomes in government schools. Targeting students from classes 6 to 10 who are lagging behind in their studies, this initiative aims to bridge critical learning gaps and improve overall academic performance across the state.
About the Marusinchana Scheme
Initially launched as a pilot project, the Marusinchana scheme focused on improving SSLC results and boosting students’ academic confidence. During the 2023–24 and 2024–25 academic years, it was successfully implemented in all Kannada medium government high schools and composite colleges across 69 taluks in 17 districts of Karnataka. In 2024–25, the programme reached 8,821 schools and demonstrated impressive outcomes, encouraging the state government to expand it further after the Dasara holidays.
Who Benefits from the Expansion
With the new phase, approximately 18,000 students in government schools across the state are expected to benefit. The programme focuses on students who are struggling academically by providing remedial teaching, structured learning modules, and intensive teacher support. This aligns with Karnataka’s commitment to equitable and quality education for all students.
Marusinchana Programme Structure
The Marusinchana scheme is structured as a 50-hour learning programme per class, spread over five academic years. Its primary goal is to strengthen foundational and prerequisite skills, enabling students to achieve class-appropriate learning levels. According to the Department of School Education and Literacy, the Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) will execute the programme in 2025.
Teachers will receive specialised training to improve their classroom practices, while students will be supplied with practice books in core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Kannada, and English. Notably, Hindi is excluded from this year’s programme.
