Indian Railways is all set to introduce the much-anticipated Vande Bharat Sleeper train next month, marking a significant leap in India’s semi-high-speed rail travel. Designed to redefine overnight journeys, this new-age train promises to elevate both speed and comfort for long-distance travelers across the country.
Built by BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) using Integral Coach Factory (ICF) technology, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train features modern design and advanced safety systems. Speaking at an event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the upcoming launch, stating, “Vande Sleeper is coming very soon – in September.” He emphasized that the introduction of trains like Namo Bharat, Amrit Bharat, Vande Bharat, and the upcoming Vande Sleeper will play a transformative role in modernizing India’s rail network.
While the exact route for the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train is yet to be finalized, the decision will be taken soon by the Railway Board. The new train will have 16 coaches comprising AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier, with a total passenger capacity of 1,128.
Speed and Features
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is designed for semi-high-speed travel, capable of reaching up to 180 kmph, making it one of the fastest sleeper trains in the country.
The train boasts world-class features, including:
- Integrated reading lights with USB charging ports
- Public announcement and visual information systems
- Digital display panels and security surveillance cameras
- Modular pantries for onboard catering
- Dedicated berths and toilets for differently-abled passengers
- Hot water showers in First AC coaches for enhanced comfort
These amenities are aimed at delivering a premium travel experience, ensuring safety, convenience, and efficiency for passengers during long-distance night journeys.
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to not only improve inter-city connectivity but also set new standards in overnight rail travel across India.
