The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced the expansion of its free Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses for school teachers across India. The initiative, titled “AI for All”, is being offered online through SWAYAM Plus in collaboration with IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation. The move aims to democratize AI education by equipping educators with essential AI skills to enhance teaching, assessment, and student engagement.
IIT Madras AI for Educators Course
As part of this initiative, IIT Madras has launched a new AI course specifically for K-12 educators. This program is designed to help school teachers integrate AI tools into classrooms and improve the overall learning experience. The course focuses on making AI concepts accessible and practical for teaching students across disciplines.
In addition to the new K-12 course, IIT Madras is also offering five previously launched AI courses, which include:
- AI in Physics
- AI in Chemistry
- AI in Accounting
- Cricket Analytics with AI
- AI or ML using Python
With the introduction of the K-12 course, teachers and aspiring educators now have six AI courses to choose from.
Duration, Eligibility, and Registration
The duration of each AI course ranges between 25 and 45 hours, making them flexible for teachers to complete alongside their professional commitments. Importantly, these courses are being offered free of cost, thereby ensuring accessibility to teachers across urban and rural India.
The last date to register for all six courses is October 10, 2025. Teachers, aspiring teachers, and professionals from various disciplines can apply for the program. Registrations can be completed online via the SWAYAM Plus platform.
Aim of the IIT Madras AI Courses
According to IIT Madras, the AI for All initiative is designed to make AI education inclusive, accessible, and interdisciplinary. While engineering students have traditionally been the primary focus of AI programs, these courses are tailored for learners from diverse fields, including arts, science, and commerce.
