IIM Bangalore Opens Admissions for New Four-Year BSc (Hons) Programmes in Data Science and Economics

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) has officially opened admissions for its newly launched four-year, full-time residential Bachelor of Science (Honours) programmes in Data Science and Economics for the 2026–27 academic year. Applications are now available on the institute’s official undergraduate admissions portal and will remain open until November 20, 2025.

These programmes, to be conducted at IIM Bangalore’s upcoming Jigani campus, mark the institute’s foray into undergraduate education, combining academic excellence, multidisciplinary learning, and practical experience to nurture the next generation of analytical and economic thinkers.

Programme Overview

IIM Bangalore’s new undergraduate offerings feature two unique degree options:

  • BSc (Hons) in Data Science, with a minor in Economics
  • BSc (Hons) in Economics, with a minor in Data Science

Each programme is designed to provide academic rigor, interdisciplinary exposure, and real-world application, aligning with the principles of India’s National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

BSc (Hons) in Data Science

The BSc (Hons) in Data Science is a full-time, residential programme that provides a comprehensive foundation in data analysis, algorithms, statistics, and computational methods, complemented by an understanding of economic principles. The curriculum includes courses on stochastic processes, algorithms, data structures, and behavioural psychology, combined with business applications and leadership development.

Students will gain practical exposure through internships, industry projects, global immersion programmes, and hands-on experiential learning. The goal is to produce professionals who can apply data-driven insights to solve complex business and societal challenges.

BSc (Hons) in Economics

The BSc (Hons) in Economics integrates economic theory, statistical methods, econometrics, and data analytics, with a minor in Data Science. This programme offers a balanced blend of quantitative skills, behavioural insights, and applied business learning, preparing students to excel in diverse domains such as policy research, finance, consulting, and academia.

Graduates of both programmes will receive a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree from IIM Bangalore, symbolizing the institute’s high academic standards and global recognition.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the IIM Bangalore undergraduate programmes, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 20 years of age or younger as of August 1, 2026.
  • Must have successfully completed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Mathematics as a subject.
  • Must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics in Class 10.

Admission Process

Each programme will admit 80 students in total (40 per major), ensuring small class sizes and personalized mentorship. Admission to the BSc (Hons) programmes will be based on the IIM Bangalore Undergraduate Admissions Test (IIMB UGAT), which will be conducted on December 13, 2025.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for in-person interviews in January 2026, and the final admission offers will be announced by February 28, 2026.
