Financial Support to the Students of NER for Higher Professional Courses 2025 - 26 Applications Open

North Eastern Council, Ministry of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India has invited the online applications for the Financial Support to the Students of NER for Higher Professional Courses for the year 2025 – 26

This initiative aims to promote higher professional and technical education among economically weaker students of the North Eastern Region (NER) through financial assistance.

Eligible students from the eight North Eastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura—can now apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The scheme is open to students pursuing Diploma, Degree, Postgraduate, M.Phil., and Ph.D. courses.

To be eligible, applicants must have a parental annual income not exceeding ₹8 lakh from all sources and must meet the academic merit criteria outlined in the scholarship guidelines. The selection will be purely merit-based, considering marks in qualifying exams and topic relevance (for M.Phil./Ph.D.).

Students pursuing M.Phil. and Ph.D. must have finalized and registered their research topic related to issues relevant to the NE Region. For diploma and undergraduate courses, the selection is based on qualifying examination marks and availability of course-level state slots.

The selected students receive monthly scholarship of ₹20,000 per annum for Diploma, ₹22,000 for Degree, ₹25,000 for Postgraduate, and ₹30,000 for M.Phil./Ph.D. students. These rates are subject to revision by NEC-appointed committees.

Fresh applicants must register on the NSP portal using a temporary ID, which is later converted to a permanent application ID. Renewal applicants should log in with their previous year’s credentials. Aadhaar number is preferred but not mandatory for application—students can alternatively use the Aadhaar Enrollment ID or bank details.

It is important to note that receiving the scholarship in one year does not automatically guarantee it for subsequent years. Renewal is subject to meeting academic criteria, course continuity, and timely reapplication.

The last date for submission of applications, renewal processes, and verifications at institute/district/state level will be announced on the NSP portal. Applicants are encouraged to apply early and ensure accuracy in their submissions, as changes are restricted after final submission.
