In a transformative move aimed at building a future-ready workforce, the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with Shell India, has launched the Green Skills and Electric Vehicle (EV) Training Program. The initiative is designed to equip both students and instructors with cutting-edge competencies in green energy and e-mobility, two sectors poised to shape the future of the global economy.
Launched on June 12, 2025, the program is being implemented by the Edunet Foundation, Shell’s official training partner. The first phase targets selected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in five key regions: Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka—all critical hubs in India’s industrial and EV ecosystem.
The comprehensive program features a 240-hour advanced EV course and a 90-hour job-oriented training module, conducted at Shell-supported labs. These labs are equipped with hands-on tools and simulation equipment to deliver practical, industry-relevant training. Alongside this, a 50-hour foundational Green Skills module is being introduced at other ITIs to broaden the reach of the program and instill essential e-mobility knowledge at the grassroots level.
To ensure consistent quality and scalability, over 250 instructors will undergo Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions. This will help standardize teaching methodologies and enable a wider dissemination of advanced EV knowledge across India’s skilling infrastructure.
The curriculum is tailored to meet the evolving demands of the EV industry and covers a range of vital topics, including electric vehicle systems, diagnostics, battery technologies, safety protocols, and sustainable practices. Participants will receive co-branded certification from Shell and DGT, adding value and industry recognition to their skill credentials.
This collaboration between DGT and Shell India marks a significant step toward preparing India’s youth for green economy careers. By combining a robust curriculum, industry backing, and practical training infrastructure, the program not only aligns with national sustainability goals but also addresses the growing demand for skilled EV professionals.
As India accelerates its transition towards clean energy and electric mobility, initiatives like this are crucial in building an inclusive, skilled, and environmentally conscious workforce.
