Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled an ambitious new initiative—the Tourism and Heritage Fellowship Programme—aimed at revitalizing and promoting Delhi’s rich cultural and historical legacy. This program, managed by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), offers an excellent opportunity for 40 young professionals each year to immerse themselves in heritage conservation, tourism promotion, and active community engagement, all while receiving a monthly stipend of ₹50,000 and a certificate upon successful completion of the one-year fellowship.

FELLOWSHIP OBJECTIVES AND VISION

The Fellowship Programme seeks to:

  • Engage youth in making Delhi’s historic sites, buildings, and cultural activities more accessible and relevant to the modern populace.
  • Position Delhi as an inclusive, vibrant, international-level tourist destination by leveraging the creativity and energy of the new generation.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this scheme aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), highlighting the importance of using domestic talent and traditional knowledge to reduce dependence on external advisors. The initiative not only aims to preserve heritage but also to offer Delhi a new identity, firmly rooting tourism strategy in local expertise and youthful innovation.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Interested applicants must meet rigorous requirements to ensure only the most committed and capable individuals lead the charge:

Age Limit: Below 35 years.

Academic Qualifications: Candidates should hold at least a graduate degree, with preference for those specializing in tourism, history, or culture.

Experience: Minimum one year of relevant experience in tourism, heritage, cultural, or related sectors.

Languages and Skills: Proficiency in both Hindi and English, along with strong digital skills, is mandatory to manage the dynamic, tech-driven aspects of tourism today.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR FELLOWS

Fellows will contribute directly to Delhi’s evolving tourism sector through a variety of hands-on projects, including:

  • Organizing and leading heritage walks and guided tours to introduce Delhi’s lesser-known historic gems to locals and tourists.
  • Creating digital promotional content and managing tourism marketing activities for the capital.
  • Participating in landmark activities such as Dilli Haat, the Garden of Five Senses, and coordinating film shoots and MICE events (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions).
  • Managing Tourist Information Centers and aiding in large-scale event management to enhance visitor experiences.
