CBSE to Issue Digital Migration Certificates via DigiLocker Starting 2025: No More Physical Copies

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a landmark decision to fully digitize the issuance of migration certificates for Class 10 and Class 12 students starting this academic year. In a major step toward digital transformation, CBSE will no longer issue physical copies of migration certificates. Instead, students will receive digitally signed migration certificates via DigiLocker, the government’s secure platform for storing and accessing official documents.

These digital migration certificates hold the same legal validity as their printed versions and are recognized by all higher educational institutions (HEIs) across India. The shift aims to simplify the process, reduce paperwork, and provide students with quick and secure access to their important academic documents anytime, anywhere.

CBSE’s Move Aligns with UGC and NAD Guidelines

The initiative follows the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive, which instructs universities and colleges to accept digital academic documents available on the National Academic Depository (NAD) and DigiLocker as valid records. This student-friendly move is part of CBSE’s ongoing efforts to promote digital governance, efficiency, and transparency in academic processes.

In another positive update, CBSE has confirmed that the digital migration certificate will now be issued free of cost. Once the board results are declared, students’ migration certificates will automatically be uploaded to their DigiLocker accounts, making the process completely seamless.

Printed Copies Still Available Through DADS Portal

While the board transitions to a paperless system, students who still require a physical copy of their migration certificate can apply through the Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS) portal, After verification, CBSE will process and dispatch the printed document to the applicant’s registered address.

What is a Migration Certificate?

A migration certificate is an official document issued by an education board confirming that a student has completed their studies and is eligible to transfer to another institution or board for higher education. It plays a crucial role during college admissions, especially when students move between educational boards or states.

CBSE’s Digital Transformation Initiative

By embracing DigiLocker and NAD integration, CBSE continues to pioneer digital reforms in education, aligning with the Government of India’s Digital India initiative.
