CBSE Issues Strict Guidelines on Direct Admissions and Subject Change for Classes 10 and 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a detailed notice urging all affiliated schools and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the prescribed timelines and guidelines regarding direct admissions in Class 10 and Class 12, as well as requests for change of subjects. The board emphasized that following these schedules is crucial for the smooth conduct of CBSE Board Examinations 2026 and timely completion of preparatory processes.

CBSE Direct Admission Guidelines 2025-26

The CBSE has laid down clear deadlines for schools regarding direct admissions:

  1. Direct admission of students in Class 10 and Class 12: Up to August 31, 2025.
  2. Schools to compile admission cases (separately for Class X and XII) in tabular form with supporting documents: Must be submitted to the Regional Office by September 2, 2025.
  3. Last date for Regional Offices to accord approvals: September 15, 2025.
  4. Special case – transfer of Government employees: Admissions after August 31, 2025, due to parent transfers, should be sent to the concerned Regional Office within 2 days of admission.

The CBSE has strictly stated that no new cases of direct admission will be entertained by schools after August 31, 2025, except under the government transfer clause.

CBSE Subject Change Guidelines 2025-26

Similar deadlines apply to requests for subject change in Classes 10 and 12:

  1. Schools to accept subject change requests: Up to August 31, 2025.
  2. Compilation of cases in tabular form with supporting documents: Must reach the Regional Office by September 2, 2025.

New CBSE Regional Offices from September 1, 2025

In a significant administrative update, CBSE announced the establishment of four new Regional Offices starting September 1, 2025. However, direct admission and subject change cases for 2025-26 will continue to be handled by their parent Regional Offices as listed below:

  • Lucknow → Parent Office: Prayagraj
  • Gurugram → Parent Office: Panchkula
  • Ranchi → Parent Office: Patna
  • Raipur → Parent Office: Bhubaneswar

Additionally, three Sub-Regional Offices have been established under the Guwahati Regional Office at Agartala, Itanagar, and Gangtok. All direct admission and subject change cases from these sub-regions will be managed by the Guwahati Regional Office.

Importance of Adhering to CBSE Deadlines

The CBSE stressed that strict adherence to timelines is vital for the timely execution of board examination processes, including preparing accurate student records, hall tickets, and exam logistics. Any delay in compliance may lead to administrative complications and could affect students’ participation in the CBSE Board Exams 2026.

The Board also reiterated its stand that no requests for direct admission or subject change will be accepted after August 31, 2025, except in government transfer cases.

The new CBSE guidelines highlight the importance of discipline and timely compliance by schools to ensure a smooth academic year. With new regional offices coming into effect and strict deadlines in place, schools, parents, and students must remain vigilant and complete all admission- and subject-related formalities well before the cut-off dates, for more details CLICK HERE
