Blockchain For Impact (BFI) Launches India Reimagined Fellowship

Blockchain For Impact (BFI) has announced the launch of the India Reimagined Fellowship, a prestigious global initiative aimed at attracting world-class researchers, innovators, clinicians, and entrepreneurs to India. The program aspires to transform the country into a global hub for advanced research and innovation in biomedical science and public health. By combining international expertise with India’s robust scientific ecosystem, this fellowship seeks to develop sustainable, high-impact solutions for some of India’s most pressing healthcare challenges.

India Reimagined Fellowship: Vision and Objective

The India Reimagined Fellowship by BFI has been designed to empower scientific leaders who can bridge the gap between global innovation and India’s healthcare needs. It offers a unique platform for fellows to pursue transformative research while contributing to India’s vision of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) through technological advancement and innovation.

Each selected fellow will receive a grant of USD 300,000 (approximately ₹2.5 crore) spread over three years. This comprehensive grant covers relocation costs, salary, project expenses, laboratory setup, equipment, staffing, and other approved research costs. The fellowship aims to ensure that researchers have the necessary financial and institutional support to execute their ideas effectively within India’s growing research ecosystem.

Eligibility and Institutional Support

The India Reimagined Fellowship is available only through institutional nominations. Up to three fellowships will be awarded in the current cycle, with one fellow per host institution. The deadline for this cycle is January 31, 2026, and applications are being accepted on a rolling basis.

Participating institutions must be FCRA-approved or exempt and are expected to provide full infrastructure and administrative support to the selected fellows. In return, fellows must dedicate themselves full-time to their research projects in India throughout the three-year fellowship period.

“These reimagined fellowships, powered by private philanthropy, will greatly enhance India’s innovation landscape and move us closer to a Viksit Bharat, where technological innovation plays a transformative role.”

BFI Founder Sandeep Nailwal also emphasized the transformative vision behind the program, stating:

“India already has the talent and institutions needed to achieve global breakthroughs in biomedical research. Through the India Reimagined Fellowship, we’re building a bridge between global expertise and Indian opportunities to create lasting impact through science, innovation, and entrepreneurship.”

A Strategic Step Toward a Healthier Future

The BFI India Reimagined Fellowship represents a strategic leap forward in enhancing India’s global leadership in biomedical science, biotechnology, and public health innovation. By fostering international collaboration, translational research, and sustainable innovation, this initiative is expected to catalyze new discoveries that directly benefit India’s population.

The program also aligns with India’s broader national objectives—encouraging private philanthropy in research, promoting STEM-based development, and nurturing an ecosystem where global innovators collaborate with Indian talent to achieve meaningful societal outcomes.
