The Election Commission of India (ECI) has strengthened its voter support system by activating the National Voter Helpline and all 36 State and District-level helplines to provide seamless assistance to citizens. This move aims to improve responsiveness to voter queries and ensure fast resolution of electoral grievances ahead of elections in India.
With an objective to enhance accessibility and transparency, the ECI has operationalized the National Contact Centre (NCC) as the central helpline for all States and Union Territories. The NCC functions daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, enabling voters to connect through the toll-free number 1800-11-1950. The helpline is staffed with trained executives who guide citizens on various electoral services, including voter registration, Voter ID updates, polling station details, EPIC status tracking, and voting guidelines.
In line with its focus on regional inclusivity, the ECI has issued directives to each State/UT to establish a State Contact Centre (SCC) and every district to operate a District Contact Centre (DCC). These centres ensure local language assistance and function during working hours on all business days throughout the year. This localized support system enables quicker, more accurate responses to complaints and voter-related queries based on the respective state’s electoral framework.
To ensure transparency and accountability, all feedback, complaints, and queries are recorded on the National Grievance Service Portal – NGSP 2.0. The digital platform allows seamless tracking of grievances until they are resolved. ECI has mandated strict monitoring by Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), District Election Officers (DEOs), and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to ensure disposal within 48 hours.
One of the key additions to the helpline ecosystem is the ‘Book-a-Call with BLO’ facility. This feature, accessible on the ECINET platform, enables citizens to directly interact with their Booth Level Officer (BLO) — the first point of contact for voter-related services such as inclusion of names in the electoral roll or corrections in voter details. Citizens can also connect with election officials through the ECINet App, further expanding the reach of electoral support services.
These upgraded facilities supplement existing grievance redressal mechanisms. Voters can continue to send their concerns to complaints@eci.gov.in, ensuring multiple accessible channels for communication.
The ECI urges citizens to actively utilize the dedicated voter helpline number 1950, the Book-a-Call with BLO feature, and the National Grievance Service Portal for fast, transparent, and efficient redressal of issues related to elections. By leveraging technology and localized support, the Election Commission aims to build a more informed and empowered voter community while strengthening India’s democratic processes.
