Union Cabinet Approves ₹1 Lakh Crore Employment-Linked Incentive Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed the Government of India’s strong commitment to creating employment opportunities, particularly in the private sector, to boost youth participation in the workforce and drive economic growth. Speaking about the government’s efforts, PM Modi revealed the launch of a major initiative — the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme, which aims to generate approximately 3.5 crore new jobs across the country.

This newly approved scheme, with a massive allocation of ₹1 lakh crore, is tailored to support first-time job seekers and incentivize employers to expand their workforce. Under the scheme, the government will provide ₹15,000 directly to young individuals who secure their first job in the private sector, effectively contributing to the first salary of their first employment.

“In other words,” said PM Modi, “the government will share the burden of the first salary, helping both the job seeker and the employer. This initiative reflects our vision to strengthen the youth economy and energize the private sector.”

KEY FEATURES OF THE SCHEME

  • ₹15,000 wage support for first-time employees entering private sector jobs
  • Aimed at first-time employment to ease the transition into formal jobs
  • Backed by a budget of ₹1 lakh crore, reflecting the scale and seriousness of the mission
  • Expected to generate 3.5 crore new jobs across various sectors, particularly MSMEs, manufacturing, and services

This scheme is not only designed to empower India’s youth, but also to support private sector employers by lowering recruitment costs and encouraging formal employment practices. It aligns with the broader economic strategy to promote inclusive development and reduce unemployment, especially among young graduates and school leavers.
