The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended its free online Aadhaar document update service until June 14, 2026, offering Aadhaar holders an opportunity to update their demographic information at no cost through the myAadhaar portal. This extension is part of UIDAI’s continued efforts to ensure up-to-date and accurate records for all Aadhaar holders, with a focus on improving document hygiene.
Under this initiative, Aadhaar holders can update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents online—particularly beneficial for individuals who have undergone life changes such as marriage, relocation, or name correction. The online service allows changes to select demographic details like name (if eligible), address, gender, and date of birth, depending on the criteria set by UIDAI.
To avail this service, users need to:
Step 1: Visit the myAadhaar portal,
Step 2: Log in using their 12-digit Aadhaar number and OTP received on their registered mobile,
Step 3: Upload scanned copies (maximum size 2 MB) of valid PoI and PoA documents, and
Step 4: Submit the request to generate a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) for tracking progress.
This online update service is completely free until the extended deadline, which is expected to encourage more users to keep their Aadhaar records accurate and current.
However, it is important to note that not all updates can be performed online. For changes involving:
- Mobile number
- Email ID
- Biometric data (fingerprints, iris)
- Photograph
Users are required to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorized update center in person, where standard fees apply.
UIDAI’s move is especially timely as it aims to enhance the usability of Aadhaar across government and private services, where up-to-date demographic details are often a prerequisite. Regularly updating Aadhaar details helps minimize authentication errors and ensures seamless access to welfare schemes, financial services, and digital identity verifications.
With the extension till June 14, 2026, Aadhaar holders have ample time to review and update their records, thereby ensuring the continued relevance and reliability of India’s digital identity infrastructure, for more details CLICK HERE
