According to the University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar, the Students with four year Under Graduate degrees can now directly appear for NET and pursue a Ph.D,
However the candidates in their four year Under Graduate degrees to score a a minimum of 75 percent marks or equivalent grades to pursue the Ph.D with or without a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF),

Starting from the academic session 2024 – 25 the University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided that the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores can be used for Ph.D admissions, The University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) through the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted twice a year in June and December, Presently the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores are used to award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and also as a eligibility for appointment as Assistant Professor for those with a Masters Degree (Post Graduation)

requiring the students to write multiple Ph.D Entrance Test, to help the students with one
national entrance test for Ph.D. admissions as a part of implementing the National Education Policy 2020. the University Grants Commission (UGC) constituted an expert committee to review the provisions of the National Eligibility Test (NET)
Based on the expert committee recommendations. in its 578th Meeting held on l3th March 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided that from the academic session 2024-25. the National Eligibility Test (NET) score can be used for admission 1o Ph.D. programmes in place of entrance tests conducted by the different Universities / Higher Educational Institutions,
