Step by Step Procedure to apply online for Ration Card

A Ration Card is considered as proof of identity in India that provides entitlement to the food and basic requirements at reasonable rates by the Public Distribution System. Next to Aadhaar Card, Ration Card is the most wanted ID proofs for anyone’s citizenship in India. This ID proof is provided and validated by the state government.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

For implementation of the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), Ration Card is being issued to all the head of family along with the details of all family members is included in the card. Based on their economic condition, people can buy items like food grains, sugar and kerosene with the help of their ration cards.

Ration card is a mandatory document for all individuals in India. It has to be renewed before it gets expired.

Ration card is essential to apply for passport, PAN card or a domicile certificate or to getvoter ID.

VALIDITY

Normally valid for lifetime and will be renewed in 5 years or based on announcement.

REQUIRED INFORMATION

Following are the required information to apply for Ration card

  • Applicant details (head of the family).
  • Details of other family members and their relationship with applicant.
  • Date of Birth and age (All the members).
  • Address details.
  • Occupation and designation of office (If any)
  • Signature or thumb impression.

ELIGIBILITY

Any person who is a legal citizen of India can apply for a ration card. Most importantly the applicant should not contain any other ration card in other states and should not hold any other family card in the same state.

Ration card is issued based on the total members in a family, and each category of the ration card determines an individual’s entitlement to certain rationed goods.

“Individuals with higher income (as fixed by the respective state government) cannot obtain rations at a subsidized cost,” according to Income Tax department.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A NEW RATION CARD

Every state government has their prescribed application forms that can be submitted offline or online to obtain a ration card.

The applicant is required to pay a basic minimum fee along with the application form. Once the application is submitted, the file is sent for field verification.

ONLINE RATION CARD APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Step 1: Kindly visit the official website of the Karnataka government. (CLICK HERE)

Step 2: Click on “e-Services” that is displayed on the right top corner of homepage.

Step 3: Select “New ration card” from the e-Ration card option.

Step 4: On the next page, select “New Ration Card Request” to get new ration card.

Step 5: Applicant has to select the type of ration card.

Step 6: Now enter your Aaadhar card number for verification process.

Step 7: Then applicant will receive OTP to the registered mobile number.

Step 8: After entering the OTP, the Aadhar details will be displayed for cross check.

Step 9: The applicant has to upload a single fingerprint or multiple fingerprints verification based on the option you selected.

Step 10: Upon successful verification, the entered Aadhar details will be displayed.

Step 11: Click on ‘Add’ button to generate your application number.

Step 12: If entered Aadhaar card number consists any existing family members, then the applicant has to delete duplicating member to apply for a new ration card.

Step 13: Select “Add Member” to update the relationship of all the members in the family.

Step 14: Click on “Next stage”button to enter the contact details of the applicant.

Step 15: Finally click on ‘Save’ button to save your application successfully.

PROCESSING TIME:

If your application is fair and complete, the processing time will be 2 – 3 week time.

HOW TO TRANSFER RATION CARD:

If an individual is shifted or relocated to a different city and the ration card has to be transferred from one state to another, then the individual has to submit an application to the nearest ration office in the new jurisdiction.

A written application has to be submitted along with proof of the new address (documents as listed above), and the necessary application fee has to be paid after which the transfer will be processed.

Similarly, a new ration card is issued or modified when a woman in the family is married and moves to husband’s house. For this purpose, the application has to be submitted to remove her name from the parent’s ration card and to add her name in the husband’s family card (marriage certificate has to be submitted for completing this procedure).
