Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is National Mission for Financial Inclusion to ensure access to financial services, namely, a basic savings & deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, pension in an affordable manner. Under the scheme, a basic savings bank deposit (BSBD) account can be opened in any bank branch or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitra) outlet, by persons not having any other account.
KEY FEATURES OF PMJDY
Zero Balance Accounts: Beneficiaries can open a savings account without requiring a minimum balance, Accounts can, however, hold a balance if the user chooses to deposit funds.
RuPay Debit Card: Account holders are provided with a RuPay debit card that can be used for withdrawals, payments, and online transactions.
Overdraft Facility: After six months of satisfactory account operation, an overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000 is available.
Accidental Insurance Coverage: RuPay cardholders get an accidental insurance cover of ₹2 lakh. (Enhanced to Rs. 2 lakh to new PMJDY accounts opened after 28.8.2018)
Life Insurance Cover: A one-time life insurance cover of ₹30,000 is provided to eligible beneficiaries who opened accounts before a specified date.
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): Eligible for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Micro Units Development & Refinance Agency Bank (MUDRA) scheme.
Mobile Banking Facility: Basic mobile banking facilities are offered, enabling rural users to access services conveniently.
Interest on Deposits: Account holders earn interest on their deposits, encouraging savings habits.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
