PM Modi Inaugurates Tuticorin Airport Terminal, Launches ₹4,800 Crore Projects in Tamil Nadu

In a significant push towards infrastructure development and regional connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the state-of-the-art terminal building at Tuticorin Airport and launched a series of development projects worth ₹4,800 crore in Tamil Nadu. These initiatives are part of the government’s broader vision to enhance multi-modal connectivity and position Tamil Nadu as a key contributor to the ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) roadmap.

The newly inaugurated terminal at Tuticorin Airport is designed to handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually. Equipped with modern amenities, energy-efficient systems, and improved passenger handling capabilities, the terminal is expected to boost air travel in southern Tamil Nadu, connecting the region more effectively to the rest of the country and beyond. The airport’s expansion aligns with the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme to promote regional air connectivity.

Apart from the airport, the Prime Minister launched several major infrastructure projects. Key among them are the upgradation of National Highways NH-36 and NH-138, which will enhance road connectivity between major industrial hubs and reduce travel time. The inauguration of the Kollidam Bridge is expected to provide seamless transport across key regions of the Cauvery delta, improving connectivity for both goods and people.

The development of North Cargo Berth-III at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi is another cornerstone of the initiative. This expansion aims to increase port capacity and efficiency, fostering port-led industrial growth. The port is one of the twelve major ports in India and plays a vital role in the logistics chain for southern India.

Additionally, the Prime Minister flagged off critical railway infrastructure projects, including electrification and doubling of key rail lines. These upgrades are set to reduce logistics costs, improve freight movement, and enhance the overall efficiency of the Indian Railways in the region.

With Tamil Nadu’s industrial base and growing infrastructure, the state is poised to become a major pillar of the Viksit Bharat mission.
