National Youth Day

Every year on 12th January, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda National Youth Day also known as Rashtriya Yuva Diwas is celebrated 

HISTORY

In 1984 the Government of India declared to celebrate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, 12th January every year as National Youth Day. Since then 12th January every year has been celebrated as National Youth Day also known as Rashtriya Yuva Diwas all over the country

SIGNIFICANCE

Swami Vivekananda whose childhood name was Narendra Nath Dutta was born on 12th January 1863 in Kolkata and died on 4th July 1902. His father name was Vishwanath Dutta and his mother’s name was Bhuvaneshwari Devi, In 1881 Swami Vivekananda met with Shri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa at Dakshineshwar’s Kali temple and became a disciple of Saint Ramakrishna Paramhamsa,

He introduced the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western World. In 1893 he attended the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, where he began his speech by saying Sisters and brothers of America….. and he introduced India’s culture to the world, the world recognizes Swami Vivekananda as one of India’s foremost social leaders, whose teachings not only influenced India but also left an impact on the Western world
