The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has announced the invitation for nominations for the National Award to Teachers (NAT) 2025 in Higher Educational Institutions. This prestigious award aims to recognize and honour outstanding faculty members across the country who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to teaching, pedagogy, research, and community engagement in the field of higher education.
The award celebrates the distinctive contributions of educators who have enriched the quality of education and positively impacted the lives of students. It particularly acknowledges innovation, dedication, institutional service, and outreach efforts, which go beyond the classroom to elevate learning experiences and academic excellence.
The awards are open to regular faculty members of:
- Category I: Colleges, Universities, and Higher Educational Institutions
- Category II: Polytechnics
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Must be a regular faculty member.
- Should have a minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Must be under 55 years of age as of the last date of application submission (9th July 2025).
- Vice-Chancellors, Directors, and Principals (regular or officiating) are not eligible to apply.
AWARD DETAILS
Each recipient of the National Award to Teachers 2025 will receive a medal, certificate of recognition and cash prize of ₹50,000
A total of 35 awards will be presented, with 25 from Category I and 10 from Category II.
WHO CAN NOMINATE?
- Self-nominations are allowed.
- Nominations may also be made by former or current Vice-Chancellors, Directors, Principals, or faculty colleagues from the nominee’s institution.
- Search-cum-Screening Committee members may nominate exemplary faculty members.
- Members of the Award Jury are not eligible to nominate candidates.
SELECTION PROCESS
The award follows a two-tier selection procedure:
A Preliminary Search-cum-Screening Committee will review and shortlist nominations. A final selection will be made by a Jury Committee from the shortlisted candidates.
The award ceremony will be held on 5th September 2025, coinciding with Teachers’ Day. Nominations must be submitted by 9th July 2025.
