The National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) scheme is a transformative initiative by the Government of India aimed at empowering low-income students from marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Labourers, and Traditional Artisans. By supporting their pursuit of higher education abroad, the scholarship promotes economic empowerment and social inclusion, opening doors to global academic opportunities for students who might otherwise be left behind.
For the Selection Year 2025–26, the NOS application portal will remain open from 00:00 hours on 19th March 2025 to 23:59 hours on 27th April 2025, providing a 40-day window for eligible candidates to apply.
The scholarship supports students seeking to pursue Master’s or Ph.D. programs at internationally renowned institutions. To be eligible, applicants must have secured a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade in their qualifying examination—Bachelor’s degree for Master’s applicants, and Master’s degree for Ph.D. applicants. For students who have pursued Bachelor of Engineering via lateral entry after a diploma, only marks obtained in the Bachelor’s program will be considered.
Additionally, applicants must have submitted their Aadhar card and obtained an unconditional offer of admission from a foreign institution ranked among the top 500 in the QS World University Rankings. Only such offers, received for academic sessions starting 2025–26 onwards, will be considered for the scholarship, subject to other eligibility criteria.
The selection process will be conducted in two rounds, with merit lists prepared for each cycle based on the QS ranking of the university offering admission. Candidates with offer letters from higher-ranked institutions will be prioritized and ranked higher on the merit list.
