Mangalore Crowned Safest City in India in Numbeo Safety Index 2025, Ranks 49th Globally

In a major recognition of its civic discipline and quality of life, Mangalore has been ranked the safest city in India according to the Numbeo Safety Index 2025, securing an impressive 49th position globally. The coastal Karnataka city earned praise for its clean streets, well-maintained public spaces, and disciplined civic systems, which have contributed to a low crime rate and a heightened sense of security among residents and visitors alike.

The Numbeo Safety Index, compiled annually, assesses cities worldwide based on factors such as perceived crime rates, safety while walking alone during the day and night, and the prevalence of petty and violent crimes. Mangalore’s strong community policing, effective municipal management, and active citizen participation in maintaining cleanliness and order have all been cited as reasons for its top ranking within India.

Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Surat follow closely behind Mangalore, making Gujarat a standout state with three cities in the top 10 safest cities in India. This consistency highlights Gujarat’s success in combining urban development with proactive law enforcement and civic engagement.

Other cities securing places in India’s top safety rankings include Jaipur, Navi Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Pune, and Chandigarh. These cities have been recognized for relatively low violent crime rates, improved surveillance systems, and public safety measures such as well-lit streets, active police patrols, and rapid response mechanisms.

On the flip side, Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad rank among India’s least safe cities in the 2025 index. These cities have struggled with challenges related to street crimes, inadequate policing in certain areas, and public perceptions of safety—factors that continue to keep them at the lower end of both national and global rankings.

Globally, Abu Dhabi retains its title as the world’s safest city for the ninth consecutive year, reaffirming its reputation for low crime rates, strict law enforcement, and advanced surveillance infrastructure. Other cities dominating the global top ranks include Doha, Taipei, and Dubai, which have consistently invested in security infrastructure, civic management, and public trust in law enforcement agencies.

Mangalore’s achievement is particularly significant given its size and economic profile. Known as an educational hub, commercial port city, and gateway to Karnataka’s coastal belt, Mangalore has managed to balance rapid growth with effective governance. Local authorities have invested in smart policing initiatives, community safety awareness programs, and traffic discipline measures that have earned the city a strong reputation for orderliness.

Residents of Mangalore have welcomed the news, viewing it as validation of the city’s collective effort to maintain safety and cleanliness. Civic bodies have also expressed commitment to sustaining and improving safety standards, recognizing that such rankings can boost tourism, attract investment, and enhance the overall quality of urban life.

With its 2025 ranking, Mangalore joins the league of cities worldwide that have proven that safety is not just about law enforcement—it’s about community cooperation, disciplined civic habits, and a shared vision for a secure and livable city.
