The picturesque city of Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, witnessed the grand unveiling of the logo and mascot for the first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival (KIWSF). The event, which will take place on the iconic Dal Lake from August 21–23, is set to bring together 400+ athletes from 36 States and Union Territories for an exciting showcase of water sports, including rowing, canoeing, and kayaking.
Himalayan Kingfisher as the Mascot
The Himalayan Kingfisher has been chosen as the mascot for KIWSF 2025, symbolizing speed, agility, and vibrancy. Known for its sharp vision and swiftness, the kingfisher perfectly represents the spirit of water sports and resonates with Kashmir’s rich biodiversity. The mascot aims to inspire young athletes to embrace competitive water sports while promoting ecological awareness.
Logo Showcasing Kashmir’s Beauty
The official KIWSF logo beautifully captures the essence of Kashmir’s natural charm. It depicts a Shikara gliding on Dal Lake, with snow-capped mountains and lush pine trees forming the scenic backdrop. The design reflects not only the aesthetic beauty of Srinagar but also the cultural and geographical identity of the region. By integrating these elements, the logo highlights how sports and tourism can go hand in hand, promoting Jammu & Kashmir as a hub for adventure and recreation.
Dal Lake to Host National-Level Water Sports
From August 21 to 23, 2025, Dal Lake will transform into a competitive arena for rowing, canoeing, and kayaking. Over 400 athletes representing 36 States and UTs will participate in this three-day festival, marking it as one of the largest national-level water sports events in India.
The Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), is organizing the festival under the Khelo India initiative. The event aims to not only promote water sports but also provide a platform for talented athletes to showcase their skills on a national stage.
Promoting Sports and Tourism in Kashmir
The Khelo India Water Sports Festival is expected to boost both sports culture and tourism in Kashmir. With Dal Lake as the centerpiece, the event highlights the region’s potential as a destination for adventure sports and eco-tourism.
Officials believe that hosting a Khelo India event in Srinagar will encourage local youth to pursue water sports professionally and inspire the next generation of athletes. At the same time, the scenic backdrop of Dal Lake is expected to draw national and international attention, further strengthening Kashmir’s reputation as a global tourist hotspot.
A New Chapter for Khelo India
The unveiling of the mascot and logo in Srinagar marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Khelo India initiative. By integrating water sports into the mainstream, the government aims to nurture young talent, expand sporting opportunities, and promote inclusivity in athletics.
