The Karnataka State Election Commission has issued directions to prepare ward-wise voter lists for the upcoming general elections of the five municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). This move marks the beginning of an extensive electoral process aimed at ensuring transparent, accurate, and inclusive voter registration across 368 wards under the GBA’s jurisdiction.
The Commission has instructed that Voter Registration Officers (VROs) and Assistant Voter Registration Officers (AVROs) be appointed in each ward to oversee the compilation and verification of the voter lists. The lists will be based on the existing electoral rolls of the assembly constituencies, ensuring that all eligible voters are included without duplication or omission.
Ward-Wise Voter List Preparation Underway
According to the official directive, voter lists must be prepared for all 368 wards in the five municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority. These corporations are expected to cover major urban areas of Bengaluru, Yelahanka, Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli, and Dasarahalli, among others.
The Karnataka State Election Commission has emphasized that each polling booth should have no more than 1,500 voters, ensuring smooth polling operations and accessibility for citizens. The numbering for each part of the voter list within a ward must begin from serial number 1, and each polling booth will be assigned a unique part number for clear identification.
This structured approach aims to simplify the electoral process, reduce logistical confusion, and improve the efficiency of polling day operations.
Schedule for Voter List Revision 2025–26
The Election Commission has released the timeline for the voter list preparation and revision process:
- Publication of Draft Voters’ List: December 8, 2025
- Period for Filing Objections and Claims: December 9 – December 23, 2025
- Disposal of Objections and Claims: December 24, 2025 – January 7, 2026
- Publication of Final Voters’ List: January 29, 2026
This schedule provides ample time for citizens to verify their details, file corrections, and ensure the accuracy of the voter database before the municipal elections.
Accountability and Supervision
To ensure error-free compilation, the Karnataka State Election Commission has mandated strict accountability measures. The Commissioners and Additional District Election Officers of the respective municipal corporations must ensure that the ward-wise voter lists are compiled accurately and within the prescribed deadlines.
A Special Commissioner will also be appointed by the State Election Commission to supervise the voter list preparation process, ensuring that the registration officers adhere to all procedural guidelines.
Any discrepancies or errors identified in the voter rolls will lead to direct accountability of the concerned officers, reinforcing the Commission’s zero-tolerance policy toward negligence or manipulation in electoral records.
The Commission has also directed that all documents related to voter list preparation, including forms, claims, objections, and revision reports, be safely preserved for future reference and audit.
Ensuring Transparency and Voter Inclusion
The voter list revision process is a critical part of ensuring free and fair municipal elections across the Greater Bengaluru Authority. The KSEC aims to use this exercise to update electoral rolls comprehensively, include new eligible voters, and remove outdated or duplicate entries.
The move will also help strengthen urban voter participation, especially in fast-growing areas where population density and mobility have posed challenges to maintaining accurate voter data.
By linking the ward-wise voter list preparation to the assembly constituency database, the Commission ensures that all eligible citizens, including first-time voters, are properly enrolled for the upcoming elections.
The Karnataka State Election Commission’s directive for ward-wise voter list preparation under the Greater Bengaluru Authority represents a major administrative initiative toward improving electoral accuracy and efficiency.
With 368 wards covered and a strict schedule for voter list publication, objection handling, and finalization, the Commission is committed to conducting error-free and transparent municipal elections in 2026.
As Bengaluru continues to expand rapidly, this initiative underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive governance, clean voter databases, and democratic participation—ensuring that every eligible citizen’s vote truly counts in shaping the future of urban Karnataka.
