Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has given a ray of hope to state government employees regarding the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) by assuring that a decision will be made after the committee submits its report. His announcement came during a special address at the Talent Award Ceremony for Government Employees’ Children, organized by the State Government Employees’ Association.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister acknowledged the anticipation among government employees over the implementation of OPS. “Once the committee report is received, an appropriate decision will be taken,” he stated, bringing cheer to thousands of employees who have long awaited a return to the pre-2005 pension system.
Highlighting the role of both parents and teachers in nurturing young talent, he emphasized the importance of utilizing opportunities. “If you don’t use the opportunities given to you, no one else can be blamed,” he remarked.
In a powerful message to government employees, Siddaramaiah cautioned against indulging in caste and religious biases. “Doing caste-religion is an insult to your profession. You are public servants, and society has entrusted you with a responsibility. We are here because of the tax money paid by the people, not just the sacrifices of our parents,” he said. Urging them to uphold values of integrity and public service, he added, “We must perform our duties with a sense of indebtedness to all sections of society.”
He also reflected on the deeper purpose of life, calling on all to strive to be “human beings of the world,” beyond narrow identities. “Birth is accidental, death is certain. What we do in between should be meaningful. Repay society and make your life worthwhile,” he advised.
He lauded the role of teachers, farmers, and soldiers, saying that these three pillars have made life better for everyone and deserve respect and repayment of their debt.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for instilling ideological and scientific thinking in children, shaping them into socially responsible citizens.
He further mentioned that his government had implemented the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations and taken necessary steps for schemes like Arogya Sanjeevini. Concluding his address, he reassured employees of the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns, urging them in turn to responsibly deliver the benefits of government schemes to the people.
