Jio Payments Bank Limited (JPBL) has achieved a major milestone by securing a contract to implement Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling systems at the Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura toll plazas on the Gurugram–Jaipur highway. This prestigious project, awarded by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), marks a key advancement in India’s journey toward barrier-free and fully digital toll collection systems.
JPBL Leads India’s Tolling Revolution
The MLFF system enables seamless tolling by eliminating traditional toll booths and barriers. Using ANPR technology, vehicles can be identified and charged automatically without stopping, ensuring smooth traffic flow and reduced congestion. This marks a significant leap forward in modernizing India’s highway infrastructure through smart mobility solutions and digital innovation.
With this win, Jio Payments Bank Limited has successfully secured 2 out of the 5 MLFF projects awarded under NHAI’s pilot initiative. The project will leverage cutting-edge technologies such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to enable real-time vehicle tracking, automated toll deduction, and frictionless travel for commuters.
Seamless Integration Through Jio’s Digital Ecosystem
JPBL’s role in this initiative is strengthened by the extensive digital infrastructure and technological expertise of Jio Platforms Limited, its parent company. By integrating Jio’s advanced data networks, cloud services, and payment technologies, JPBL aims to create a robust, secure, and scalable tolling ecosystem that enhances digital payments and smart mobility across India’s national highways.
The ANPR-based MLFF system will use high-resolution cameras and machine learning algorithms to identify vehicle license plates with precision, ensuring accurate toll collection even at high speeds. This eliminates human intervention and enhances efficiency, transparency, and security in toll management operations.
Boosting India’s Smart Highway Vision
The implementation of Multi-Lane Free Flow toll systems aligns with the Government of India’s Digital India and Smart Mobility initiatives, aimed at making transport infrastructure more efficient, sustainable, and user-friendly. The pilot project by NHAI and IHMCL serves as a critical step toward a nationwide rollout of free-flow tolling, transforming how tolls are collected across expressways and national highways.
As a digital-first financial institution, Jio Payments Bank is leveraging its fintech expertise to strengthen the cashless toll payment ecosystem through FASTag, UPI, and digital wallet integration. This project further reinforces JPBL’s commitment to digital transformation in transportation and fintech convergence.
A Step Toward the Future of Mobility
With the successful execution of MLFF systems at Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura, Jio Payments Bank is set to play a leading role in reshaping India’s tolling infrastructure. The collaboration underscores how technology, banking, and mobility can converge to create smarter, faster, and more sustainable travel experiences for millions of Indian commuters.
