In a landmark step towards advancing responsible artificial intelligence in governance, IndiaAI, an Independent Business Division (IBD) under the Digital India Corporation (DIC) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has launched the IndiaAI Face Authentication Challenge 2025.
The challenge is part of the IndiaAI Application Development Initiative (IADI) and invites startups and AI-driven companies to develop secure, scalable, and highly accurate facial authentication solutions capable of revolutionizing image verification and application de-duplication processes across large-scale government programs.
The core objective of this initiative is to leverage AI to safeguard the integrity of large-scale public examinations by ensuring fair, transparent, and merit-based candidate selection, while also enabling cross-sectoral deployment of such technologies across government departments, public sector organizations, and State institutions.
About the IndiaAI Face Authentication Challenge
The IndiaAI Face Authentication Challenge calls for the development of AI-powered photo verification systems that can perform one-to-many facial matching against historical applicant databases. Participants are required to design an end-to-end automated AI solution capable of detecting duplicate or fraudulent records, ensuring the issuance of a unique ID for every legitimate applicant.
Unlike traditional rule-based verification systems, the proposed solutions should harness advanced AI and deep learning-based facial recognition algorithms to achieve unmatched accuracy and reliability, even at scale. The ultimate goal is to establish trust, transparency, and efficiency in identity verification for various citizen-centric services.
Prizes and Opportunities for Innovators
The IndiaAI Face Authentication Challenge offers an exciting set of rewards and opportunities for top-performing teams:
- Up to 10 shortlisted teams will receive ₹5 lakh each to further refine, test, and validate their solutions on a provided sample dataset.
- Up to two top-performing teams may be awarded a two-year contract and up to ₹1 crore for the final deployment and integration of their solutions at a national scale.
These incentives are designed to foster innovation among Indian startups and AI enterprises, while ensuring that cutting-edge indigenous solutions contribute to the Digital India and AI-for-Good mission.
