IIT Roorkee Launches Advanced Certificate Programme in Quantum Computing

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, one of India’s premier institutions, has launched its first-ever Advanced Certificate Programme in Quantum Computing: Algorithms and AI/ML. This groundbreaking initiative aims to empower professionals and graduates to upskill in quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, and machine learning (AI/ML)—fields that are rapidly transforming industries worldwide. The six-and-a-half-month online programme, offered through the Continuing Education Centre (CEC), IIT Roorkee, is being conducted in collaboration with TimesPro, a leading professional education platform.

The IIT Roorkee Quantum Computing Programme offers a cutting-edge learning experience designed to bridge the gap between theoretical foundations and practical industry applications. Learners will gain exposure to quantum computing principles, secure communications, AI/ML integration, and real-world problem-solving through hands-on projects, live online classes, and simulations. The course uses state-of-the-art tools and platforms such as Qiskit, PennyLane, IBM Quantum Systems, and D-Wave, enabling participants to code, test, and simulate quantum algorithms.

According to Prof. Kaushik Ghosh, Coordinator at CEC, IIT Roorkee, “We designed this programme to bridge the gap between theory and practical deployment. Learners will gain hands-on experience with real hardware, applying quantum algorithms and AI/ML techniques to sectors like security, finance, optimisation, and healthcare.”

COURSE MODULES

The Advanced Certificate Programme in Quantum Computing comprises five key modules that provide a holistic understanding of the domain:

  1. Introduction to Quantum Computing and Applications
  2. Quantum Algorithms and Software
  3. Quantum Communications and Networks
  4. Quantum Machine Learning
  5. Quantum Machine Learning Applications

Participants will learn the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, explore quantum communication protocols such as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), quantum teleportation, and quantum cryptography, and implement well-known algorithms including Shor’s Algorithm, Grover’s Algorithm, and Simon’s Algorithm. They will also develop Quantum Support Vector Machines (SVMs), Neural Networks, and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)—key techniques driving advancements in Quantum Machine Learning (QML).

The programme is structured in a direct-to-device online format, offering over 300 learning hours that combine live interactive sessions, recorded video lectures, case studies, assignments, and a 30-hour capstone project. Participants will also have the option to attend a campus immersion at IIT Roorkee to experience in-person learning and networking opportunities with peers and faculty.

On successful completion, participants will receive a certificate from the Continuing Education Centre (CEC), IIT Roorkee, validating their expertise in quantum computing and AI/ML integration. This certification aims to prepare professionals for emerging roles in quantum research, secure communication systems, data-driven innovation, and AI-based solutions across industries like healthcare, finance, drug discovery, and cybersecurity.

Applications for the IIT Roorkee Quantum Computing Programme 2025 are now open and will remain so until November 23, 2025.
