IIT Bombay Launches Generative AI Course for Women Professionals, Entrepreneurs

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has announced a new certificate programme, “GenAI for Business: A Hands-On Introduction”, exclusively designed for women professionals, entrepreneurs, and managers. Offered by the Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship (DSSE), this beginner-level course in generative AI will run online from September 11 to 13, 2025.

Registrations for the programme are now open and will remain available until September 9, 2025, the institute confirmed.

Focus on Generative AI for Business Applications

The three-day online course is designed to provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in generative AI. According to IIT Bombay, the programme will create a collaborative learning environment where women participants can explore leading AI platforms and understand their business applications.

Through live demonstrations, real-world examples, and guided exercises, participants will gain exposure to some of the most popular AI tools, including:

  • ChatGPT
  • Claude
  • Gemini
  • Microsoft Co-Pilot
  • DALL·E
  • Perplexity AI
  • Flux1
  • Grok
  • Notebook LM

By the end of the programme, participants will have the skills to experiment with these tools and apply AI-driven strategies in their professional and entrepreneurial journeys.

Generative AI Adoption Among IIT Bombay Students

The announcement comes at a time when generative AI tools are already becoming widely used within the IIT Bombay student community. According to the Senior Survey 2025, conducted by Insight, the official student media body of IIT Bombay, ChatGPT is now the second most popular tool for learning new skills, after platforms like Coursera.

The survey, which received 282 responses, revealed that:

  • 118 students preferred using online platforms for upskilling.
  • 65 students relied on ChatGPT for learning.
  • Only nine students still depended on library books, highlighting the shift from traditional study resources to AI-powered tools.

However, the survey also revealed areas where generative AI remains underutilized. Out of 138 students who admitted to not using ChatGPT for certain tasks:

  • 89 avoided using it for resume-making.
  • 46 did not use it for assignments and projects.

This indicates that while AI is being increasingly adopted for learning and skill development, many students remain cautious about its application in academic and professional tasks.

Empowering Women Through Generative AI

By launching the GenAI for Business course, IIT Bombay aims to bridge this gap by encouraging women entrepreneurs, managers, and working professionals to embrace AI-based solutions for business challenges. The course not only offers technical training but also seeks to empower women with future-ready skills in the evolving digital economy.

The introduction of IIT Bombay’s generative AI course for women is a significant step towards making advanced technologies more inclusive, accessible, and impactful. By equipping women professionals with AI-driven business strategies, the programme supports India’s broader vision of AI integration in education and entrepreneurship.

With registrations open until September 9, 2025, the initiative is expected to attract women leaders eager to harness the power of generative AI for innovation and growth.
