The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, to significantly scale up national skill training initiatives. The landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on December 9 at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, and Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, MSDE, along with senior officials from both bodies.

This strategic collaboration aims to integrate industry-focused, NSQF-aligned skill training into IGNOU’s vast education network, ensuring wider reach and flexible learning opportunities for millions of learners across India.

Skill Centres to Be Set Up Across IGNOU Regional Network

Under the MoU, Skill Centres will be established in all 70 IGNOU Regional Centres. These centres will offer various training programmes under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, adhering to the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) so that learners earn recognised certifications.

IGNOU will function as a Training Partner under PMKVY 4.0 and leverage:

  • 70 Regional Centres
  • 2,400+ Learner Support Centres
  • Digital learning systems
  • Blended learning expertise

This will enable flexible skilling pathways for different job roles across sectors.
