In a significant move to strengthen science education and outreach, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to establish the HAL Advanced Academic Initiation Centre at CeNS’ Arkavathi Campus in Karnataka. The initiative is part of HAL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment to promote scientific learning, particularly among rural students.
The new centre will serve as a dynamic platform for science outreach and experiential learning, supporting CeNS’s flagship programme Vigyaani Vidyarthi Vichar Vinimay (V4). This initiative, which has already impacted over 20,000 students from more than 200 educational institutions across Karnataka, is designed to ignite curiosity, inspire innovation, and foster critical thinking among young minds through hands-on workshops, scientific demonstrations, and interactive sessions with scientists.
The MoA was formally signed by HAL’s General Manager (HR), Mr. Pradeep Kumar, and CeNS Director, Prof. BLV Prasad. The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of HAL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. DK Sunil and Director (HR) Mr. MG Balasubrahmanya, who expressed strong support for the collaboration.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. DK Sunil emphasized HAL’s commitment to nurturing scientific temperament in the country. He said, “This partnership with CeNS reflects our belief in the power of science education as a catalyst for national development. The centre will provide rural students with access to world-class scientific facilities and mentors, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical understanding.”
Prof. BLV Prasad of CeNS echoed these sentiments, stating that the HAL Advanced Academic Initiation Centre will expand the reach and impact of the V4 programme. “We are excited to deepen our engagement with rural communities and provide young learners with a stimulating environment to explore science and technology,” he said.
Set against the scenic backdrop of the Arkavathi Campus, the centre will include dedicated labs, classrooms, and demonstration areas equipped with modern tools to facilitate a wide range of educational activities. The initiative is poised to become a model for industry-academia collaboration in promoting STEM education in India.
Through this joint effort, HAL and CeNS reaffirm their shared vision of empowering the next generation of scientists and innovators, especially from underserved regions, thereby laying the foundation for a scientifically literate and progressive India.
