CBSE Class 10 Board Exams Twice a Year from 2025: Draft Scheme Released

CBSE Class 10 Board Exams Twice a Year from 2025:

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a significant reform in the Class 10 and 12 Board Examination system, aiming to reduce exam pressure and the reliance on coaching classes. While the Board exams for Grades 10 and 12 will continue, the existing structure will be modified to prioritize holistic learning over rote memorization.

KEY CHANGES IN CBSE BOARD EXAMS

Elimination of Coaching Dependency: The new assessment model ensures that students who attend school regularly and engage in classroom learning can pass without requiring extensive coaching. Exams will focus on core competencies rather than memorization, making the process more student-friendly.

Board Exams Twice a Year: To eliminate the high-stakes nature of exams, students will be given the opportunity to take the Board exams twice a year. They can attempt the exam once and, if needed, opt for an improvement exam within the same academic year.

Greater Flexibility and Subject Choice: Students will have more flexibility in choosing the subjects for their Board exams, aligning with their interests and future aspirations. The option to take different subjects at different levels—standard or higher—will also be introduced, starting with Mathematics.

Modified Exam Format: CBSE is considering new models for conducting Board exams, including semester-based or modular exams that test smaller portions of the syllabus. Some subjects will feature a combination of objective (MCQ-based) and descriptive sections to assess students comprehensively.

Fixed and Flexible Exam Schedules: Class 10 and 12 Board exams will commence on the first Tuesday after February 15 each year.

Core subjects like Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, and English will be conducted on fixed dates, as per the current system, Regional and foreign language exams will be conducted in a single sitting, Elective subjects, such as Data Science, will be scheduled on two or three different days based on CBSE’s formula, but students cannot choose their exam date.

Examination Centers and Result Processing: The same exam centers will be assigned for both attempts.

The first exam’s results will be available on DigiLocker and can be used for Class 11 admissions, A merit certificate will be awarded after the second examination, and students passing all five subjects will be declared successful.

With these reforms, CBSE aims to reduce stress, promote conceptual learning, and provide students with a fairer assessment system, for more details CLICK HERE
