Bihar Government Introduces ‘Mukhya Mantri Pratigya’ Internship Scheme for Youth

In a major step toward enhancing youth employability and preparing them for the job market, the Bihar government has launched the ‘Mukhya Mantri Pratigya’ scheme. Aimed at bridging the gap between education and employment, the scheme provides financial assistance to young individuals undertaking internships ranging from 3 to 12 months after clearing their Class 12 board examinations.

Under the scheme, youths between the ages of 18 and 28 will be eligible to receive monthly stipends based on their educational qualifications:

  • ₹4,000 per month for those who have passed Class 12,
  • ₹5,000 for ITI diploma holders, and
  • ₹6,000 for graduates and postgraduates.

To encourage mobility and greater industry exposure, the government has also introduced additional financial support for interns working away from their hometowns. Those interning outside their home district will be entitled to an extra ₹2,000 per month, while individuals interning outside Bihar will receive an additional ₹5,000 per month for up to three months. All disbursements under the scheme will be made via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and timely payments.

The initiative is part of Bihar’s broader efforts to improve industry readiness and promote skill-based learning among the state’s youth. By offering practical, hands-on experience through internships and providing financial backing, the scheme aims to make young professionals more competent and job-ready.

Alongside the internship initiative, the Bihar Cabinet also approved the ‘Mukhya Mantri Kalakar Pension Yojana’, a welfare scheme designed to support the state’s artists. Under this scheme, eligible artists with at least 10 years of contribution to classical, visual, or performing arts will receive a monthly pension of ₹3,000. The objective is to preserve and promote Bihar’s rich cultural heritage, while also acknowledging the dedication of artists who have kept traditional art forms alive.
