Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Announces Uniform Rs 100 Fee for Preliminary Tests of State Competitive Exams

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a uniform fee of Rs 100 for the preliminary tests (PT) of all competitive examinations in the state, while candidates appearing for the main exams will not be charged any fee. This landmark decision is aimed at benefiting lakhs of youth aspiring for government jobs and comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the CM highlighted the government’s intent to ensure fee uniformity and affordability for candidates. He said, “I am pleased to announce that a decision has been made to bring uniformity in the fees for preliminary tests of competitive examinations conducted by all commissions for state-level government jobs, and to provide significant fee concessions to candidates.”

Under the new directive, candidates appearing for preliminary tests of competitive exams conducted by commissions such as the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC), Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC), Bihar Police Subordinate Service Commission (BPSSC), and the Central Constable Selection Board will only need to pay Rs 100. Those who successfully clear the preliminary examination and proceed to the main exam will not have to pay any examination fee, effectively reducing the financial burden on aspirants.

The CM emphasized that providing government jobs to the youth of Bihar has been a priority of his administration. He stated, “To provide opportunities to the youth of the state and to secure their future, our government has taken several concrete steps. Now, we have taken this decision in the interest of the youth.” This initiative is expected to make competitive examinations more accessible for students from all economic backgrounds, particularly those from economically weaker sections.

By standardizing the fee for preliminary tests and waiving the mains examination fee, the Bihar government aims to encourage more young candidates to participate in state government recruitment exams. The move is also seen as an effort to promote transparency and fairness in the recruitment process, ensuring that financial constraints do not deter talented youth from applying.

This announcement comes at a time when the demand for government jobs in Bihar is increasing, with thousands of young aspirants preparing to appear for competitive examinations conducted by multiple commissions. The uniform fee structure is expected to simplify the application process and reduce the cost burden on candidates preparing for careers in state government services.

Experts suggest that this step by the Bihar government could set a precedent for other states to reconsider examination fees and improve accessibility for candidates. It also reinforces the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and employment generation through fair and affordable recruitment practices.

With this initiative, Bihar’s youth will have the opportunity to participate in competitive exams without financial stress, potentially increasing participation and encouraging more candidates to pursue careers in state government services.
