The Assam Foundation of North America (AFNA) has taken a remarkable step to promote higher education among economically challenged students from Assam through its educational scholarship and mentoring initiative. This program, designed to support promising students pursuing postsecondary education, aims to help them become self-sufficient and uplift their families in the long run.
PURPOSE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The primary objective of the AFNA scholarship is to encourage higher education among financially underprivileged students by offering not just monetary support but also ongoing mentoring. This initiative enables students to focus on their academics without being burdened by financial stress and prepares them to be capable contributors to their family and society.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To apply for the AFNA scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Course Requirement: Students must be enrolled in or planning to enroll in a bachelor’s degree course in any discipline. Diploma or certificate-level courses are not covered.
Academic Qualification: Applicants must have cleared Higher Secondary / Pre-University / CBSE / ISC or equivalent examinations.
Income Criteria: The applicant’s per-head family income must be Rs. 50,000 or less per year. This figure accounts for net income after all deductions. Only direct family members are considered for this calculation.
Domicile: The student must be a permanent resident of Assam, verified through official documentation.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Interested candidates must complete the application online through the official AFNA scholarship portal. The application window for the 2025–2026 academic session opens on January 1, 2025, and closes on May 31, 2025.
SELECTION PROCESS
No Academic Cut-off: There is no minimum academic score required. The AFNA Scholarship Selection Board (SSB) will assess applications holistically, including responses to essay questions.
Application Review: The SSB reviews all complete applications, and its decisions are final and binding.
Documentation: Applicants shortlisted for further consideration must submit supporting documents by 31st July 2025.
Announcement: Final results will be declared by 31st August 2025.
SCHOLARSHIP DURATION AND RENEWAL
The scholarship covers one academic year and is renewable annually based on:
- Reapplication for the new academic year
- Academic promotion to the next year
- Satisfactory conduct and attendance
- Continued enrollment as a regular student
If a student discontinues the course, they must inform the program (AKADAMICS), and the scholarship will be discontinued.
DISBURSEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship amount is disbursed in four equal installments throughout the academic year. The disbursement schedule aligns with Assam’s academic calendar, from July to July.
The amount is directly credited to the student’s bank account. Hence, students must have an account in a recognized bank.
