Aarambh Learning and Support Centre Launched by Delhi Cantonment Board

In a significant step towards inclusive child welfare and education, the Delhi Cantonment Board, under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence, has launched Aarambh – a learning and support centre initiative. The programme was officially inaugurated on August 26, 2025, at Silver Oak School, Delhi Cantonment. Aarambh is designed to provide free education, healthcare, and holistic development opportunities to the children of migrant and construction labourers working in the Cantonment area.

Bridging the Education Gap for Children of Labourers

Children of migrant workers are among the most disadvantaged groups in urban India. Their parents’ transient jobs, lack of permanent housing, and limited access to stable schools often deny them their fundamental right to education. Aarambh directly addresses this critical gap by ensuring these children have access to foundation learning, life skills, and a safe space for growth.

Currently, 32 children are enrolled under the initiative, and efforts are underway to expand its reach to include all children of construction workers in the Delhi Cantonment region.

Key Features of Aarambh Initiative

The Aarambh learning and support centre has been designed to ensure holistic development and long-term empowerment of children. Its key focus areas include:

  • Enrolment in local schools: Ensuring free access to quality education for the children of construction workers.
  • Healthcare and medical facilities: Providing regular health check-ups, medical services, and counselling support through tie-ups with local healthcare units.
  • Nutrition and well-being: Ensuring children receive nutritious meals and support for healthy development.
  • Holistic child support: Supplying uniforms, shoes, bags, water bottles, lunch boxes, books, stationery, and transportation facilities.

This comprehensive package ensures that children do not just gain academic learning but also receive the emotional and physical care needed for holistic growth.

A Step Towards Inclusive Development

The launch of Aarambh by the Delhi Cantonment Board aligns with India’s broader goal of inclusive education and child welfare. By targeting the often-overlooked children of migrant labourers, the initiative ensures that no child is left behind in accessing quality education and healthcare. The focus on nutrition, life skills, and counselling also supports the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), which emphasizes holistic and inclusive learning environments.

Future Expansion of Aarambh

With its promising start, Aarambh is expected to expand further in the coming months. The aim is to bring every child of construction and migrant workers in Delhi Cantt under its umbrella. By scaling up, Aarambh has the potential to become a model initiative for child welfare and educational inclusion across other defence cantonments and urban clusters in India.

The launch of Aarambh – a learning and support centre by Delhi Cantonment Board marks a milestone in child development, education, and healthcare support for marginalized children. This initiative not only provides academic access but also creates a nurturing environment where children of labourers can grow with dignity, opportunities, and hope. By bridging the educational divide, Aarambh is sowing the seeds for a brighter and more equitable future.
